Scope

The Alexander Maconochie Centre Additional Facilities (AMC-AF) project was initiated by the ACT Government to address ongoing capacity and operational issues within the existing correctional facility. The purpose of the project was to increase the number of detainee beds, whilst also creating better facilities for detainees.

Construction Control was engaged by the ACT Government under a Managing Contractor Contract to undertake the design and construction of two detainee accommodation buildings within the existing operational AMC correctional facility.

The project required CC to undertake a rigorous planning and design development phase, which resulted in the detailed design and construction of two accommodation buildings:

  • Building 1 – 30 Cell (30 bed) Flexible Accommodation Facility (Special Care Centre)
  • Building 2 – 56 Cell (80 Bed) Flexible Accommodation Facility (Accommodation Unit)

As part of the delivery of the two accommodation buildings, CC also delivered: two barbeque and amenities buildings; a vehicle and pedestrian Sally Port; and were able to increase the capacity of the buildings from 110 beds to 169 through a double bunking process – all within the original target cost and programme.
